Centranthus Pretty Betsy Jupiter's Beard
Pretty Betsy Jupiter’s beard is a perennial with pink to coral-red flowers. The selection prefers sandy, well-drained alkaline soil in full sun or part shade; it is native to Europe, where the White Cliffs of Dover turn red when it blooms there in spring. Pretty Betsy also does well in the U.S., particularly in areas that have cool summer climates. It grows to 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide and flowers from June to August. In ideal conditions, the plant self-seeds profusely and can become invasive. Cutting the flowers immediately after they appear will prevent them from forming seeds and prolong flowering.
