Large, leathery dark green leaves are mottled with silver. A rhizomatous spreader, it makes a great groundcover. Has 2" dark purple-brown blooms in late spring that are usually hidden by the leaves. Evergreen. Prefers light to full shade and moist, humus-rich soil. It can tolerate clay and damp soils, but is also drought tolerant once established. Also known as Chinese Wild Ginger
